Free Music is Good Music
Recently singer songwriter Taylor Swift removed her award-winning music off the popular music streaming service, Spotify. This, like everything else Swift does, sent people into a frenzy. Swift stated in Times magazine, “I think there should be an inherent value placed on art.”
I personally do not agree with Swift. If an artist truly cares about the music they are producing they should not worry about the money they make from it. I understand for some struggling artists this is the only way they are able to hold an income. Spotify is a way for people to explore music and introduce themselves to artists unknown to them. Music is essential to some lives. It’s a way for individuals to escape for a few minutes and live in the world of the song.
“Music is for everyone,” Singer Adam Levine told Buzzfeed. “I don’t care how anybody obtains it as long as they get it and enjoy and love it.” Levine also added that as long as people are “supporting the artist in some way,” they should be able to access music how they choose.
This is exactly what music represents. Something to enjoy and love.
