Caffeine Addiction

By Dustin Wolf

I think that a caffeine addiction is probably the best addiction. Not really though. A caffeine addiction is one of the most common addictions. Who knows, you might have it and not even know. Do you ever get a random headache in the middle of the day and not know why? Do you ever start to fall asleep in class and realize you forgot to have your daily cup of coffee? The science behind caffeine addiction related headaches starts with dilated blood vessels. Caffeine helps restrict painful dilated blood vessels. So, you could say that caffeine can help you, but it could also cause a painful headache. When you don’t have a daily dose of caffeine, your body anticipates the caffeine to help with the headache. Which in response has a adenosine production which helps restrict dilated blood vessels in your body. The production is slowed down and potentially causes a headache. So, the easiest way to get rid of your addiction without having an agonizing headache is to slowly restrict your caffeine doses. But on the other hand, if you have a horrible migraine try drinking some coffee, that might help reduce the pain. Funny how that works, right?
