Inspired by Rosa Parks – Q&A with Teressa Nkrumah

Sophomore Teressa Nrumah’s poem

What do you like about poetry?

I write poetry about once a week. I like creating something, making something on my own. Something I can be proud of. I feel like I can express myself better than in other types of writing.

How did you get your idea for this poem?

I was in Black Student Union and we were supposed to do a poem about a famous person and I chose Rosa Parks and she inspired me.

What was the process like for writing your poem?

I usually listen to music when I’m writing. Or, I like to watch shows. I listen to a lot of jazz music when I’m writing.
